Purina owns Felix cat food, a popular wet cat food brand, found in Australia and the UK.

Review summary:

The good?

Great taste.

Felix hits the spot with a delicious taste fussy cats love. Looks good too, with a nice meaty texture and smell.

The bad?

Added cereals.

Carb rich ingredients that cats don’t need.

The ugly?

Safety fears.

UK has an online petition to remove Felix, questioning safety. Nothing proven, but of concern to everyone.

In short:

Reliable.

Felix comes in variety packs at a great price, that get the job done. Our cats always give Felix the meow of approval.

Whilst the safety fears are worrying, nothing is proven to say this product is dangerous.

With solid nutrition quality in the pouch, Felix is a no-nonsense choice. A complete meal for adult cats or kittens.

  • Fussy eaters

Ingredients

Good.

The label of Felix Sensations Jellies is a with (e.g. Felix Sensations with beef). That means the product only contains 3-25% beef.

25% meat is quite low for a cats diet, but since the list uses poultry and lamb this bumps up the total meat content.

Added cereals bump up the carbs, which isn’t ideal for blood sugar control.

Quick notes:

  • Meat rich
  • Added cereals
  • Added thickeners

Nutrition

Solid.

Felix cat food is high in protein. When given a choice, cats prefer a high protein diet.

The carbs are hard to calculate based on the fact I couldn’t find any info on water content. Assuming 80% water, the carbs come in at 8.5% on a dry matter basis.

I recommend limiting carbs to less than 12% in a cats diet for long term health. So this seems to fall under this amount, although it could always be lower.

There’s also added vitamins and minerals to help cats meet their dietary needs.

Overall, the nutrition seems to be fine for adult cats.

Felix is a complete food for maintenance based on AAFCO’s nutrition guidelines. This means the foods are suitable for adult cats aged 1-7 years.
