Verdict

Michu Original cat litter is biodegradable and super low dust.

This cat litter forms rock-hard clumps for your scooping pleasure. Odor control is good, provided you keep up with daily cleaning and don’t let pee linger.

The main issue is the long tendril shape, common in tofu cat litter. My kittens were a bit unsure about it.

Price could be a tad better too.

Overall, a good tofu cat litter for those wanting an environmentally friendly option that leaves the air fresh and clean.

Product Testing Information: Michu Cat Litter

I bought a pack of Michu cat litter (original) and used it with my two kittens.

Then I performed other testing including dust analysis with an air quality monitor.

Dustiness

Michu is very low dust.

I used an air quality monitor and tested Michu original cat litter using three tests. At no point did levels go into harmful ranges.

This is a great option for anyone concerned with health. More data and video footage below.

Cat Preference and Usage

I tested Michu original tofu cat litter to a control (Smitten clay litter).

Our two kittens opted for the clay litter a little more than Michu. Over time, they may have gotten used to it, but the texture is a little long and harder than others I noticed.

Scooping out waste wasn’t an issue. I noted a slight musty smell, but odor control was ok.

Urine sometimes stuck to the bottom, but it formed good solid lumps that were easy to remove. Feces weren’t an issue either.

Some litter got kicked outside the tray, but I suspect it was the low sided trays were the culprit. A high sided tray will help a lot with this litter.

Review Limitations

I only used this litter for 3 days (one to acclimate the kittens to the litter, and two for testing). A longer time frame will get a more precise reflection of what our kittens truly enjoy.

I emptied the litter tray at least three times a day, but one problem is my kittens will use it at night. If one tray gets full, another might get used instead begrudgingly.

Finally the litter boxes used in this article are only 42cm long. Research suggests cats prefer larger boxes (at least 1.5x the size of your cat), and my experience is similar.

I didn’t have the litter available to fill the larger litter boxes for this review. Smaller sides also have more issues with litter getting kicked out and tracking.
